Fabien Mérelle
Fabien Mérelle’s exhibition at Edouard Malingue Gallery in Hong Kong featured a series of intricate ink and watercolor drawings as well as a public installation that brought to real life scale Mérelle’s fantastical elephant drawing “Pentateuque” (2012). Bi-lingual texts are interspersed throughout. The typographic treatment references calligraphy in the tradition of scroll paintings. The influence of narrative structures the essay treatment. It is a nod to the novel form. Paper transitions reflect the contrasting materiality of the works.
