Singapore Biennale 2011

The binder, the section tabs, the breakdown of sections (and different paper stocks — from lo-fi to art paper), the slipcase material and, even the sticker — allowed for the exploration of the Biennale’s thematic notions of artistic process while consolidating an epic documentation of largely works-in-progress. Borrowing from the generic form of a technical guide or user’s manual, the decision to forgo traditional bookbinding and opt instead for a three-ring binder allowed the flexibility to update, remove, and add content. Both the execution and design of the catalogue represent artistic and curatorial process in action.
