This exhibition catalogue accompanied Stingel's show at Gagosian New York, March 2011. The large format, numerous gatefolds, and metallic endpapers were a deliberate consideration of the scale and material of these new works. The minimalist flow of images, in conjunction with an essay by Francesco Bonami, intends to illuminate through select repetition the meditation involved in accessing the past to paint self-portraits of a younger self. The progression of black through gray to color is akin to these latest paintings. The cover image marks the first time that Stingel has used color in his portraits.
