Rita Ackermann

'Rita Ackermann,' published with Rizzoli, is the first comprehensive monograph on the work of the Hungarian born artist who resides in New York City. Utilizing large details the dust jacket, the case cover, and the opening pages immerse you in paint and materials. Essays and interviews throughout the book place the artist within a range of contexts — historical, pop, American, contemporary, psychoanalytic — and the juxtaposition of plates reflect these contexts devoid of any chronological hierarchy. The selection of spreads, in particular, was paired in close collaboration with the artist and served as a way of introducing the reader to the various themes that recur throughout the work as often the pairings are of newer works next to older works.
